The registration to enter the XVII edition of the "Encuentros Abiertos ? Festival Of Light 2012" with Passion as its theme it's now open. On this occasion, besides photographic works, multimedia projects will be accepted.
Since ancient Greece philosophers, sociologists, psychoanalysts, novelists, poets, composers and painters have addressed the subject. Because passion ? which evokes the image of love, of leaning, of obsession, of fanatism, or even sheer madness ? is inherent of the humane.
Passion (from Latin, patior, to suffer or feel) it's a very intense feeling, towards a person, subject, idea or object. Frequently is applied to enthusiasm, to a strong affinity or desire over something, to a fondness, a lively interest or admiration for a proposal, cause, activity, etc.
Meanwhile, the term passion has a very special meaning in Christian dogma, since the diverse physical and psychic suffering that Jesus Christ had to endure on its way to crucifixion, death and burial are referred as the Passion of Christ.
An extreme belief -both religious and political-, the overwhelming ambition of power or money, the excessive desire for success, the exaggerated dedication to work, the game compulsion, the fanaticism for any kind of activity, sport or idol; love for animals or any type of art, the leaning to volunteer or sexual passion are just a few examples that allow us to begin to reflect on a subject that is as broad as it is complex. Besides, we'll try to approach its effects: social changes, inventions, creations but also wars, crimes of passion, deceptions, felony, sever family ties and many other consequences to which passion may lead.
Passion is a subject that allows a vast visual exploration:
